Sara Maslar-Donar joined the 27 News team in June 2019 as a multimedia journalist. You can catch her most weekdays and every Sunday night. She comes from the ABC affiliate in Columbia, Missouri, where she spent four years as a reporter and anchor.
While growing up in suburban Chicago, Sara knew she wanted to be a journalist. She loved to write and has always enjoyed meeting new people. She spent her high school years working for the newspaper, as well as shadowing from time to time at the Fox affiliate in Chicago.
Sara got her undergraduate degree in Broadcast Journalism from the University of Missouri, and is one of the proudest Tigers you’ll ever meet (MIZ!) She received numerous awards from the Missouri Broadcaster’s Association for her business and economic development reporting, as well as awards from the Missouri Bar Association for legal journalism.
During her four years at ABC 17, she covered major stories such as the scandal surrounding and resignation of Gov. Eric Greitens, the 2015 protests at the University of Missouri, and the devastating tornado that ripped through Missouri’s capitol. She also led the charge on a series of stories investigating a proposed hotel tax in Columbia.
When she’s not holding local officials accountable, she’s most likely relaxing at home with a craft beer and an Agatha Christie novel. She’s beyond thrilled to meet the incredible people of Southern Wisconsin and can’t wait to explore everything Madison has to offer. If you have a story idea – or just a tip on which brewery or restaurant she should try next – you can email her at firstname.lastname@example.org, send her a Facebook message, or tweet at her, @SaraMDNews.
