Michelle Alfini joined the 27 News team in June of 2018 as a multimedia journalist.
She comes from WKOW’s sister station KBJR in Duluth, Minnesota. There, she served as a multimedia journalist covering stories from the Twin Ports, up to the Canadian border and across Northwestern Wisconsin.
She’s covered a variety of stories including the explosion at the Husky Energy refinery. As the first reporter on scene, she gave updates from the field as the station aired seven hours of continuous coverage. In 2018, that coverage was awarded an Upper Midwest EMMY for breaking news reporting.
Alfini is a graduate of Elon University where she graduated as an honors fellow. In school she traveled to Rio de Janeiro to research and report on human rights violations leading up to the 2016 Olympics. That work earned her first place in the AEJMC Multimedia News Story Contest and 11th in the Hearst Multimedia Enterprise Reporting Competition.
Alfini is originally from Annapolis, Maryland but she’s thrilled to call the Upper Midwest her new home thanks to cheese curds and the abundance of lakes.
