New era begins for Madison Memorial Football

The preps joining the pros on the practice field. Many local teams kicking off fall camp today. the rest will join in on Wednesday. Today marked the first practice for new Madison Memorial head coach Michael Harris.

The new regime for the Memorial alumni Harris took place over in the offseason. Harris coached La Follette from 2008-2014.  His task now is to retool a Spartans squad that posted a 4-6 record a year ago.

"I love the enthusiasm of the athletes. They work well together," said Harris. "There is a good gelling that is going on with the team chemistry. I really like the rapport we are establishing with the staff."

Harris had a 20-35 record in six seasons at La Follette.

"It’s trying to find that balance and letting the players know my personality and expectations," Harris said. "That’s part of the joy because I get to learn their personalities and expectations in me as well."

Memorial will host Sun Prairie to open the season on August 17, at 7 p.m.
