At-risk kids get school supplies from Madison organization

MADISON (WKOW) — The 100 Black Men of Madison is ensuring kids go back to school with everything they need for the classroom.

The groups spent Saturday giving school supplies and vital services to more than 2,000 economically disadvantaged youth and their families in time for the new school year.

The organization has donated more than 35,000 free backpacks filled with school supplies to local, at-risk kids.

"Everything that we can do to make sure that a child is at an advantage, we’re going to make sure that happens. Putting a backpack filled with brand new school supplies on these kids is an advantage. If not they would go back with nothing at all to begin their school year," said J.R. Sims, the spokesman for the organization.

The mission of the 100 Black Men of Madison is to improve the quality of life within our communities and enhance educational and economic opportunities for all African Americans.
