Flooding hits Special Olympics Wisconsin office in Appleton

APPLETON (WKOW) — Storms on Tuesday led to flooding at a strip mall in Appleton that houses the office of the Fox Valley Area Special Olympics.

Staff members and volunteers spent the past two days throwing out what couldn’t be salvaged and storing what could be saved.

"All of this is really taking its toll," said Nicci Sprangers of Special Olympics Wisconsin. "Worried a little bit about being able to really execute those events and raise the funds that we need for our program. But at the same time get through this and this damage that we’re working on right now."

The Special Olympics team is planning some of its biggest fundraisers of the year right now, but they say they won’t let this setback affect that process."
