Man survives bear attack in northern Wisconsin

WASCOTT, WI (WKOW) — A bear hunter is alive after the tables turned on him over the weekend and he was attacked in far northern Wisconsin.

Tye Carlson survived, but he ended up with stitches over much of his body. The bear bit him, clawed him and tore into his body while he was hunting near Wascott. The bear weighed more than 350 pounds.

“He popped out and he wasn’t going to stop. He just ran me over and started biting on me,” he said.

Carlson says he’s never felt threatened by a bear, until Saturday.

“I wasn’t too panicked at first, but when he started pushing me around and biting hard I got a little, ‘Uh oh, I’m in trouble here,” he said.

Finally, another hunter arrived, shot the bear and killed it.

Carlson lost a lot of blood, but he survived and says he doesn’t blame the bear for trying to do the same.
