Student wellness and recovery group hosts sober tailgate

MADISON (WKOW) — Wisconsin beat Illinois Saturday afternoon and before the game many people were at tailgates. One tailgate looked a little different than the others.

The Live Free Student Wellness and Recovery Group hosted a sober tailgate at the Pres House Church.

The group is a peer-to-peer student organization dedicated to providing a safe space for those seeking recovery from addictive behaviors or those who just prefer the sober lifestyle.

“Drinking culture is so prominent in our school and in our society,” said Live Free Co-Chair, Kierin Barnett. “So it’s really important for us to provide this for people who might feel alienated or just excluded from football games.”

This was Live Free’s second tailgate.

The group hopes to continue the event in future years.
