Dane County green initiative works with high schoolers

MADISON (WKOW) — Hundreds of people in Dane County gathered at UW Madison today for an environmental sustainability conference. The University of Wisconsin partnered with Sustain Dane to carry out it’s 10th annual conference.

This year, Sustain Dane is focusing their outreach on kids. High school students from Madison area schools joined the conversation to talk about building more sustainable communities.

Sustain Dane Communications Manager, Lucy Marshall, says the event is a great way to engage people of all ages.

“We’re coming together to learn from each other, be inspired by each other, do art together, watch comedy, laugh, create and really dream up what we want to be doing together to create a better future”.

Participants discussed green initiatives and visited vendor booths. Several local artists worked with students to create an art project made out of recycled materials the students brought with them.

This year’s event drew just over 300 attendees.
