Girl scouts honoring girls and mother killed in crash

GREEN BAY (WKOW) — A hit-and-run driver killed three Girl Scouts and one of their mothers in an accident over the weekend in Lake Hallie.

Now, other Girl Scouts are honoring their memories.

One troop in Green Bay created a custom badge in honor of the girls, and to benefit their families.

Scouts have to earn the badge through service, so the troop started an event focused on helping the community and the idea spread.

“Now, we have more than 3,500 people who are participating and organizing events. We have people in Canada and in Italy and everywhere,” said Elizabeth Steffel of the West Side Green Bay Girl Scout Troops. “So, it’s not even just national anymore. It’s becoming the world.”

All of the events are set for Saturday.
