Globetrotters teach Madison kids how to block bullying

MADISON (WKOW) — Students in Madison learned new ways to help team up to stop bullying from one of the most-famous basketball teams in the world.

Harlem Globetrotter Orlando “El Gato” Melendez visited students at Elvehjem Elementary School in Madison Friday afternoon. Melendez showed off some of his tricks with the basketball but also taught kids how to stop bullying at school by talking, empathizing, asking, and mobilizing.

“The way things are looking right now kids are looking for a lot of role models, positive role models,” Melendez said. “For the Globetrotters, it’s also a way to engage with families and kids and also give back to the community, saying ‘thank you’ for the support all these years.”

The children are part of the YMCA after school program.
The Globetrotters are scheduled to play in Madison December 29.
