Smoke, Ashwaubenon’s irritable turkey, removed from town

ASHWAUBENON — Smoke, an often irritable turkey known as “The Mayor of Ashwaubenon” has been banished from town.

Following a high-profile incident this past week where a turkey believed to be Smoke was seen chasing a child down the street, officials  decided it was time for Smoke to go.

Photographs of the capture were posted to the Facebook group, Smoke the Turkey-Mayor of Ashwaubenon by user BrendaLynn.

She says she took the photos from the windows of her office at Fay Dental Care.

“He was quite a conversation piece for our patients while getting their dental work and he just loved our office Christmas tree,” BrendaLynn told WBAY TV.

Ashwaubenon Public Safety says USDA Wildlife Biologists captured the turkey.

“Smoke was captured humanely and was not injured,” read a statement from Capt. Jody Crocker, according to WBAY.

The USDA worked with local DNR employees to re-locate Smoke to a wildlife area.

It will “allow him to live freely in the wild with other turkeys,” Crocker says.

Officials did not release the name of the wildlife area.
