NEW GLARUS (WKOW) — This holiday season is only the second year home bakers are enjoying the ability to legally sell their homemade baked goods.
On Sunday people were selling their baked goods at the New Glarus Holiday Stock Up Market.
Up until October of 2017 it was illegal to profit off of homemade baked goods. You could only profit off of goods made in a commercial kitchen.
After a lawsuit, a Wisconsin court ruled the law prohibiting people from selling home-baked goods unconstitutional.
Now, anyone can enjoy selling their cookies, cakes, or breads.
“It gives people the opportunity to test the waters and see if they can successfully sell baked goods, and if they do, then they might want to invest in a commercial kitchen where they can really produce,” Dela Ends said.
Ends was one of the bakers who helped successfully overturn Wisconsin’s Home-Baking Ban.
She was selling holiday treats like breads, muffins, and cinnamon rolls at the holiday market.
