The 58-year-old bus driver, who was headed home in a Ford Taurus after his holiday shift, pulled out of the bus depot parking lot near Kinnikinnick Avenue and Maple Street when the driver of a Chevrolet Equinox slammed into his car. Seconds later, police pulled up behind the wrecked vehicles.
MILWAUKEE (WISN) — A Milwaukee County bus driver was badly hurt in a Christmas Day police chase and crash and police are still looking for the SUV driver who caused the mayhem.
Milwaukee police officers spotted a reckless driver near Kinnikinnick Avenue and Ward Street about 11 a.m. Tuesday, and a chase began.
They arrested two passengers, a 23-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman, who tried to run away. The SUV driver was not caught.
A Milwaukee County Transit Systems spokesman told WISN 12 News they’re all thinking about their co-worker who remains in the hospital.
“It’s just really upsetting for all of us. You know, he’s just doing his job, heading home for the holiday especially, just heading home to his family and for something so senseless — just this reckless driver to come rushing down the street, speeding, hitting him — (is) just awful,” Matt Sliker said.
The bus driver has been with MCTS for nearly 14 years. He remains in the hospital.
Police said they know who the driver who ran off is, but they’re still looking for the individual.
