Man arrested for 4th OWI, led officers on chase

MADISON (WKOW) — A man was arrested in Madison for 4th offense OWI, among other things, after a series of events led to a chase early Monday morning, according to the Madison Police Department.

MPD officers were watching traffic on East Washington Avenue when a silver Chrysler drove straight at a squad car at about 3 a.m. The vehicle swerved before hitting the squad car, then sped away. Officers lost sight of the vehicle.

The car was quickly located in a parking lot in the 1100 block of East Washington Avenue. Officers parked nearby and watched as 28-year-old Gustavo Gonzalez-Campos got in and started the vehicle. When he noticed the officers he got out of the car and ran away.

Gonzalez-Campos was found nearby and arrested on numerous charges, including 4th Offense OWI, Eluding an Officer, Threats to Law Enforcement, Bail Jumping and traffic citations.

He was taken to the Dane County Public Safety Building.
