MADISON (WKOW) — It appears the Packers have their man.
The Associated Press says Matt LaFleur accepted the team’s offer to be its next head coach. He’s currently the offensive coordinator for the Tennessee Titans.
The Packers fired Mike McCarthy during the season.
It’s been a rough two years to be a Packers fan. And fans who were watching football Monday night at Babe’s hope the team’s new hire brings them some optimism next season.
Ron Smith has been a Packers fans since 1961 and he’s seen a lot of coaches come and go.
“I thought Mike Holmgren was a really good coach,” Smith said while waiting for the Alabama-Clemson game to start.
While he liked former head coach Mike McCarthy, Smith is excited about the Packers’ new head coach, Matt LaFleur.
“He is an offensive-minded coach. Hopefully with Rodgers he can get that offense going again,” he said.
“Hopefully Aaron will respond and jump on board with the new coach and throw a heck of a lot of touchdowns,” said Ben Rettig, while having a beer with a friend.
Change is good, according to some Packers fans, like Rettig and Marc Horton.
“Anytime you get a new change, it’s great to embrace it. I think there’s a lot of upside in the future of the Green Bay Packers,” Rettig said.
“You gotta do something after this season for sure. I mean hopefully, we don’t want them to do the same thing over again. Definitely exciting to get a new coach in there and see what happens,” Horton said.
After a disappointing 2018-2019 season, fans say they’re looking for nothing less next season than a Super Bowl victory.
