Evers: Wisconsin should take action on climate change

MADISON (WKOW) — Governor Tony Evers (D-WI) said Thursday that climate change is real, and that Wisconsin needs to take action to secure its future.

Evers spoke at a renewable energy summit in Madison. The conference, which was organized by RENEW Wisconsin, included renewable energy advocates, solar energy installers, and government officials.

Supporters of renewable energy argue more use of wind and solar energies can reduce reliance on fossil fuels, which contribute to global warming. Evers said its possible to expand Wisconsin’s economy while investing in renewable resources.

“We shouldn’t have to choose between investing in new industries and protecting our natural resources, like our land, rivers, and waters,” Evers said.

Former Gov. Scott Walker rarely discussed climate change. His administration ordered several references to it be removed from state websites.
