MADISON (WKOW) — Hundreds gathered in the Capitol rotunda on Monday to celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther Kind, Jr.
Monday marked the 39th annual official state ceremony honoring the civil rights activist. The keynote address to the crowd was delivered by Peabody and Emmy Award Winning Director Rita Coburn Whack.
“Your acknowledgement of the birth, life and the death of Martin Luther King, Jr. means that we are all from the same tribe,” sadid Coburn Whack. “We are the evidence that truth is marching.”
This year women who have played an historical role as pioneers were honored during the state event.
