Winter weather advisory for freezing rain, sleet and snow through tonight

MADISON (WKOW) – The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory until 6 am Wednesday for a mix of precipitation.

TIMING
From 11-1 am, precipitation will begin to change over to freezing drizzle, especially for our southernmost row of counties.

The system will exit out of our area by around 2-4 am early Wednesday.

TOTALS
Far north, 1-2 inches of mainly snow and sleet are expected.

For our central areas, including Madison, up to an inch of wet snow and sleet is possible mixing in with a little freezing rain.

For far south and southeast Wisconsin, the majority of your precipitation will be freezing rain. Up to a quarter inch of ice accumulation is possible.

IMPACTS
Most roads are ice covered tonight, especially for our WI/IL bordering counties. There will be some improvement by morning, but side roads will likely still be slick.

ANOTHER WINTRY SYSTEM
By Wednesday evening, another wintry system develops, this time mainly looking like freezing rain. This will likely impact your Thursday morning and evening commutes! Details to come…
