Sun Prairie’s Nelson signs on to walk-on for Badgers

Sun Prairie wide receiver Cooper Nelson was one of six Cardinal football players to sign to play at the next level on Wednesday, National Signing Day.

Nelson follows in his dad, Scott’s, footsteps. Scott Nelson is a former Badgers safety who played in the 1994 Rose Bowl.

Cooper Nelson says his dad didn’t impact his choice, but growing up as a Badger fan certainly helped make his decision.

“Well for me it felt like home,” said Cooper Nelson. “And it’s so close to home, that you can’t really beat it. And overall it’s great football and a great school. It’s pretty cool to see all the support for both me and for my teammates as well. It’s just kind of a dream come true for me and it’s always been a goal of mine so it’s pretty exciting.”

Nelson caught 60 passes for 1,027 yards and 13 touchdowns – and also threw a touchdown pass.

Other Cardinals signing to play at the next level include: James Zarosley with Concordia-Wisconsin and Jaharee Weah with Michigan Tech.
