United Way of Dane County celebrates 211 Day

MADISON (WKOW) — Each year, United Way celebrates February 11th as 211 Day. 211 is the nonprofit’s information line.

The United Way of Dane County tells 27 News it is working to spread awareness of everything 211 can do to help the community. The Southern Wisconsin call center says it receives around 90 calls every day from people needing help.

“211 is really the connector,” said 211 Director Rachel Gundacker. “If somebody has an issue but they don’t know if any agency is providing a service – an agency that perhaps United Way is funding or working with – they can call 211 and we can help them get connected.”

The number has helped connect people with resources following the explosion in Sun Prairie and historic flooding in Wisconsin over the summer.

211 also helps with food pantry questions, mental health calls, and opioid addiction.
