Stoughton wrestling will defend team title this weekend

The Stoughton wrestling program is one of the most decorated in the state. Later this week they will compete at the state team meet for the 13th time as they will defend their Division 1 team title.

The Vikings are making their sixth straight appearance in the state team meet, and come in as the top seed in Division 1.

“It’s kind of cool because everyone has to work together to come out on top,” said senior Freeman Detweiler. “It’s kind of cool to see everybody work together. We like to prove that we’re number one.”

Last weekend, Stoughton set the state record for the most individual state titles of 51. Senior Hunter Lewis was the record setting victory. He’s calm and collected headed into the team meet.

Lewis said, “I wouldn’t say that there’s pressure. There’s definitely a drive to achieve that goal. It’s almost like an expectation. It’s kind of what we’re looking for.”
