MADISON (WKOW) — The Wisconsin Department of Transportation has released the total number of calls Wisconsin State Patrol received in the month of February, due in part to the challenging weather.
According to their findings, State Patrol handled 22,673 assistance calls in February, of which 5,892 were motorist assists, including 1,648 slide-offs and 1,274 were crashes.
“It’s not spring yet, and more winter weather will come,” the Department of Transportation says in a Facebook post.
If you must travel during difficult conditions, the department has provided some tips, including checking 511 for road conditions, keeping a fully charged cell phone and having a full tank of fuel.
They say to stay buckled up inside your vehicle if you become stranded and call 911.
