MADISON (WKOW) — March 29 is National Vietnam War Veterans Day. To honor those who served, the VA Hospital in Madison hosted a remembrance ceremony on Friday.
Veterans were given a lapel pin and a chance to attach a yellow ribbon around a symbolic tree that will be in the hospital’s lobby.
One veteran from Waterloo, Wisconsin says the recognition is important because many service members did not receive a warm welcome home from the war.
“It’s very touching,” he said. “I had the ability to go to Green Bay when they did the welcome home Vietnam service up there. Any little thing like this really hits home.”
After the ceremony, the VA also held a town hall to let veterans know what’s happening at the hospital.
