MADISON (WKOW) – UW Athletics will begin installing railings in Camp Randall Stadium in two aisles in an effort to assess the viability of doing so in other parts of the facility.
“We are assessing the functional impact of these hand rails with the hope this may lead to a substantial improvement in the stadium,” Senior Associate Athletic Director Jason King said Monday in a news release.
The hand rails will be installed in the aisle between both sections B-C and BB-CC and be ready for the 2019 football season.
The initial installation is being done on a limited basis so that UW Athletics, UW Police Department and Madison Fire Department personnel can assess fans’ ability to move safely and efficiently up and down the aisles of the stadium during the 2019 season.
UW athletics proposed adding railings after some longtime season ticket holders have complained that the lack of railings has made it difficult for them to get to their seats.
In documents provided to 27 News by the Wisconsin Department of Administration, the total budget for adding railings throughout the stadium is estimated at $300,000.
The railings would be installed in all sections of the stadium except for those behind the eastern endzone which are traditionally reserved for students.
No timetable for completing the entire stadium project has been released.
