MCFARLAND (WKOW) — Earth Day is on Monday, and people in McFarland are getting a head start on cleaning up their community.
More than 50 volunteers rolled up their sleeves for a day of service organized by the village Saturday morning.
They cleaned up waterways and roads throughout the community, along with parks and other public spaces.
Organizers say it’s a way to support the environment and each other.
“This is a great day to meet neighbors, to meet more residents, and to see what beautiful public spaces we have,” volunteer coordinator Katie Gletty-Syoen said.”We have so many jewels in McFarland and so it’s great to be able to get out and engage in them.”
Volunteers also spent some time preparing McFarland’s community garden for planting season, which is about to begin.
Organizers say the great weather brought in even more people wanting to help.
