MADISON (WKOW) — A Madison 15-year-old faces a charge of second degree sexual assault of a child and false imprisonment after being arrested Thursday afternoon.
The teen is accused of assaulting a 17-yr-old girl in January when the suspect lured the victim into a bathroom at La Follette High School.
The attack took place on a weekend during non-school hours, according to a post on Madison Police Chief Mike Koval’s blog.
The incident follows an arrest Wednesday of a 16-year-old LaFollette High School student on suspicion of repeated sexual assault of a child.
In that case, a 15-year-old girl told police she was repeatedly and forcefully groped over the course of a couple of weeks this past February and that these incidents took place in several areas of the school, according to a Madison Police Department incident report.
In a report Thursday in 27 News, Missy Mael, director of education and outreach at the Rape Crisis Center, said seeing all these cases come forward can make it seem like our schools are getting more dangerous.
“It sends ripples through the entire community,” she said.
However, Mael said it could also indicate students are feeling safe enough to come forward.
“If we’re doing our job right, reports will increase,” she said.
Mael said the center has been working with Dane County schools to create that safer environment. She said that starts by supporting students who do report.
