Janesville man charged with 4th OWI resigns from teaching position

JANESVILLE (WKOW) – A Janesville man arrested Feb. 23 on suspicion of a fourth drunk driving offense has resigned from his position as a teacher with the School District of Janesville.

Dennis H. Brunner, 50, resigned in March, the school district announced today following a request.

Authorities say Dennis H. Brunner, 50, has also been charged with felony threat to an officer and misdemeanor resisting an officer.

A criminal complaint stated officers responded to Brunner’s home to investigate a report of a man down. The complaint says they found Brunner in his car, with the car running. The complaint states Brunner resisted arrest until an officer threatened to deploy a taser, and threatened an officer after being taken into custody.

The complaint says Brunner’s blood alcohol level was .235, nearly three times the state’s legal limit.

Court records show Brunner was arrested twice for suspected operating while intoxicated in 2014, and served jail time for both offenses in 2015.  The Janesville Gazette reports Brunner has been a teacher since 1995.
