MADISON (WKOW) — The Dane County Sheriff’s Office says deputies stopped an inmate from taking his life Friday night.

A deputy noticed the inmate using a drawstring to try to choke himself. Officers immediately intervened. The Sheriff’s Office says the inmate received immediate medical care but did not require any lifesaving measures.

He was taken to a local hospital.

After receiving treatment, the inmate will be brought back to the jail and will be monitored under suicide prevention protocol.
