New K9 welcomed into Madison Police Department

MADISON (WKOW) — The Madison Police Department has a new four-legged crime fighter.

The agency introduced K9 Archie at the Midtown District Thursday.

Wendy and Duane Reichel of Madison helped sponsor Archie.

They also gave him his name, after her grandfather.

“I went through a whole bunch of names and I don’t know, none of them seemed to fit. But, Archie just sounded like a cool name. And then the Royal Family named their latest baby Archie, so now the name is vogue again,” says Wendy.

Archie will be working with his human partner, officer Emily House.

Police say Archie will be a dual purpose dog, meaning he’ll be used for tracking and helping with arrests.
