MADISON (WKOW) — A Madison summer camp for girls is offering hands-on experience in training as firefighters, EMTs and police officers.
The first session of CampHERO kicks off in mid-July. While most of the sessions are already full, there are still some spots available for girls completing 8-12th grades.
Organizers said this training is important to show young women they are capable of helping others.
“Girls need to know that they are smart enough, strong enough and brave enough to pursue a paid or volunteer career as a police officer, firefighter, EMT/paramedic or dispatcher,” said a statement on the CampHERO website.
Tuesday on Wake Up Wisconsin the creator of CampHERO talked about their need for volunteers.
