Police pull driver from SUV after crash into Sun Prairie pond

SUN PRAIRIE (WKOW) — Police in Sun Prairie pulled a man from a car that went off the road and into a retention pond Tuesday night.

Officers tell 27 News the car was seen driving erratically on Westmount Drive, crossed over Main Street and went into the pond. Police say the vehicle ended up about 30 feet off the road and got stuck in the marshy area of the pond, before it got into deeper water.

The driver was unresponsive, so officers broke a window to pull him out.

Medical crews were able to revive him on scene and took him to the hospital.

Police say the man was impaired. They are now trying to determine whether his impairment was due to drugs, alcohol or both.

Once he is released from the hospital, officers say the 28-year-old will be booked on OWI, drug and bail jumping charges. He is also likely to face traffic violations in the crash.
