(WKOW) — City and county officials are celebrating five years since same-sex couples were allowed to get married in Wisconsin.
Those marriages began on June 6, 2014 in Madison and Milwaukee.
Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway, the city’s first openly gay mayor, reflected on what she saw and how she felt, even though she was out of town at the time.
“I watched the videos online and I was just sitting there in my hotel room with tears streaming down my face because it was so amazing and beautiful and spontaneous and momentous and historic,” she said.
At the Dane County board meeting after the celebration, board members passed a resolution recognizing the anniversary.
