Stricker, Kelly eager for another shot at Am Fam Championship

Am Fam Championship host Steve Stricker will be making his third start at his hometown tournament. The Edgerton native says that he learned a lot from last year, where he led after the first round. However, Stricker shot an over-par score the next day to fall out of the lead.

“I learned not to maybe party so hard on Friday night of concert night,” said Sticker at his Thursday pre-tournament press conference. “I’ve got to have golf at the forefront once we start tomorrow. That’s my goal is to kind of block all this out once I hit that opening tee shot tomorrow and try to do what I know how to do.”

Madison native Jerry Kelly says that he’s also learned a lot from last year’s tournament where he finished the runner up, one stroke behind the leader.

“I tend to be overly aggressive early and I just need to sit back and let my game kind of melt into place, it should work out,” said Kelly at his Thursday pre-tournament press conference.

That leader and reigning Am Fam Champion is Scott McCarron. He currently leads the tour with 8 top tens and 3 wins this season. He’s led the Charles Schwab Cup each of the last 7 weeks.

“Trying to defend would mean a lot,” said McCarron at his Thursday pre-tournament press conference. “This tournament arguably has one of the best fields of the year. Stricker gets pretty much everybody to come and [University Ridge is] a great golf course.”

Stricker and McCarron will be a part of the the first group that tees off Friday at 9am on the first hole. You can see other tee times here.
