Huge crowd comes out to see Favre, Nicklaus at AmFam Championship

The AmFam Championship is becoming a summer tradition here in Madison, in its 4th year of existence. But there is another tradition developing – the celebrity foursome, hosted by Andy North.

Once again, Brett Favre returned to the links of University Ridge Golf Course and he was paired up with 18-time major champion Jack Nicklaus. Neither one had met each other before Saturday. Even for a guy like Favre, he admits he was a little star-struck with Nicklaus.

“The only way I can describe it is being a priest and serving mass with the Pope,” said Favre, ahead of the celebrity tournament. “This is an extreme honor.”

“I enjoy [the celebrity tournament] because, like I said, I don’t have to keep score,” said Nicklaus, ahead of the tournament. I don’t have to have a score. We can laugh and giggle a little bit. But I throw my 85-mile an hour clubhead speed at it now and the ball just goes pffft.”

Favre was asked about his Instagram post from this past week saying he was coming out of retirement. However, the gun slinger quickly shot that rumor down saying his account was hacked.

“I got hacked, absolutely,” said Favre. “Somebody obviously doesn’t have a lot to do. Yeah, the last thing I want to do is stir the pot. That’s the last thing I want to do is come back and play. No offense, but it was fun then. I’m not coming back.”

Favre played 16 years for the Packers before finishing his career with the Jets and Vikings.
