Military Affairs identifies employee who died at Volk Field

CAMP DOUGLAS (WKOW) — The state employee who died Monday while working at Volk Field has been identified as Nicholas Janz, 40, from Warrens. The Department of Military Affairs released the additional information after first announcing the death Monday.

A representative for Military Affairs said Janz was repairing runway lights when he touched a live electrical source.

Janz was a facility maintenance specialist and was working in that capacity when he died at approximately 11 a.m., the DMA said. Officials have not yet responded to additional questions about how Janz was killed. He had worked for DMA since 2010.

“DMA is working with local and state officials to review the details of the accident,” the department wrote in a press release.

“The entire DMA family sends its thoughts and prayers to the Janz family during this difficult time. He will be remembered as a diligent and dedicated employee, and all of the Wisconsin DMA mourns his loss,” the department said.
