UPDATE: Man who eluded arrest by Janesville police taken into custody in Arizona

UPDATE (WKOW) — A man wanted by Janesville police after he fired gunshots in the air while police attempted to arrest him has been taken into custody in Arizona.

Antonio D. Sims, 39, was taken into custody by U.S. Marshals in Mesa, Arizona, about 2 p.m. Wednesday and will be returned to Wisconsin to appear in court.


JANESVILLE (WKOW) — Janesville police said a man escaped arrest after a disturbance on the 4th of July.

According to a news release, officers were called to 507 S. Academy St. around 11:45 p.m. to settle a dispute in the parking lot.  When they got there, the suspect Antonio Sims, 39, had left.

Police were called back when Sims returned.  They caught up with him north of Wilson Street and told him he was under arrest.  Sims ran away and ended up firing three gunshots into the air.

Police say they retrieved his gun and found shell casings.

Sims is facing charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm, recklessly endangering safety and obstructing/resisting an officer.
