UPDATE: Highway reopens after cleanup of downed power lines in Monroe

UPDATE (WKOW) — The downed power lines have been cleared as of 1:53 p.m., and Highway 11/81 has reopened.

MONROE (WKOW) — Downed power lines north of Monroe have closed a portion of Highway 11/81, and more than 650 customers are without power in the area.

Power lines are laying across a portion of Highway 11/81, closing the road and diverting traffic, according to a Facebook post by the Green County Sheriff’s Office. “Deputies are on scene of a power line across STH 11/81 both lanes and traffic is being diverted at this time,” the post said.

An update to the post said the wires “cover both lanes of travel.”

At the same time, Aliant Energy’s outage map showed 651 customers without power Thursday afternoon.

This is a developing story.
