In a year, Edgewood College will be about to begin the inaugural seasons of three new sports. In 2020, the college will be adding men’s and women’s lacrosse, as well as men’s volleyball.
Edgewood College Athletic Director Al Brisack says they’ve been looking at adding lacrosse for about 8-9 years. He says the sport has grown at the high school and youth level in southwestern Wisconsin, and the college is excited to draw from that pool of talent.
“Our vision for both lacrosse teams, as well as the men’s volleyball team, is – and I feel strongly about this – we should be the resource for the community,” said Brisack. “And so if there’s growing movements in those areas, those people should be able to – whether they’re the players playing or their coaches – they should be able to look to our coaches and say, ‘I need help with this’. They should be a resource for helping them grow [the sport]. And they haven’t had that here.”
The lacrosse and volleyball teams will join the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference, where the other Eagles sports belong. The school is still determining who will coach the teams, and where lacrosse will play.
