Gov. declares state of emergency following fires & power outage

MADISON (WKOW) — Following two fires at Madison Gas and Electric substations, Gov. Tony Evers has declared a state of emergency in the City of Madison and Dane County.

The declaration means state agency buildings will be closed for the rest of the day, and employees were sent home or asked to not come into work today.

The Wisconsin National Guard has been activated and is now able to provide assistance.

“We are grateful that no one has been injured as a result of the explosion and fires this morning, and I want to thank emergency personnel who responded quickly to contain the situation,” said Gov. Evers in a prepared statement.
