Teen faces attempted first-degree intentional homicide charge in Madison incident

UPDATE (WKOW) — A Madison teen faces an attempted first-degree intentional homicide charge connected to an incident July 20 that ended with a stolen car crashing into a Madison police squad car following a chase.

The 16-year-old, who police have not yet identified, faces charges of attempted first-degree intentional homicide, armed robbery, substantial battery, resisting, operating a motor vehicle without owner’s consent and possession with intent to deliver marijuana.

A second teen, 17, faces charges of operating a motor vehicle without owner’s consent.

Detectives from the Violent Crime Unit determined the case involved an armed robbery where the victim, a 17-year-old male, was battered and forced into a car. He was able to break free and run.

As he did shots were fired, according to a Madison police incident report.

Authorities say the shooting incident took place on Park Ridge Drive on the city’s west side.

“It makes me very frightened,”  neighbor Julie Fellenz says.  “They’re warning us also about a lot of car thefts, and a lot of thefts from garages.”

An investigation into the incident led VCU detectives and members of the Dane County Narcotics Task Force to Jackson Quarry Lane Thursday where they found the 16-year-old suspect as a passenger inside a stolen Lexus.

Finding himself surrounded, he took off running and was chased down by police. The driver was also arrested.

Inside the Lexus, investigators located a handgun, ammunition, more than a dozen handgun magazines and marijuana.

In another case development, the 16-year-old girl arrested following the July 20 chase, (the driver of the stolen car that crashed into an MPD squad) is also facing numerous tentative charges including party to a crime attempted first degree homicide, party to a crime of armed robbery, operating a motor vehicle without owner’s consent, felony eluding, recklessly endangering safety and resisting.


MADISON (WKOW) — Police say they’ve arrested two teenagers after a report of shots fired led to a vehicle and foot chase.

Madison Police officers responded to the 6900 Block of Park Ridge Drive for a report of shots fired shortly before 12:45 p.m. Saturday.

According to an incident report, when officers arrived they found no individuals hurt or property damaged, but a casing was recovered and evidence was discovered by officers leading them to a suspected stolen white Audi that had left the area was connected to the shots fired.

Around 1:30 p.m. the Audi was seen on East Washington Avenue.

Police say officers started chasing the car soon after, when the occupants of the stolen vehicle escaped police.

Police say, after crashing into an MPD squad car, the two occupants ran away, leading to a short foot chase before the two suspects were arrested.

The incident report said both suspects were transported to a local hospital for treatment related to minor injuries and two Madison officers received treatment for minor injuries related to the crash and foot chase.

A 17-year-old and a 16-year-old female were taken into custody, facing charges of Eluding a Police Officer and Operating a Motor Vehicle without the Owners Consent. The 17-year-old will be charged as an adult.
