WHITEWATER (WKOW) — Two children were killed Thursday when a semi-truck crashed into a SUV that had turned in front of it, deputies say.
A Ford Excursion traveling north on U.S. Highway 12 in Whitewater at the Walworth Avenue intersection turned in front of a semi-truck heading southbound on the highway just after 7:30 p.m.
The driver of the SUV, Kristina Wilken, 44, of Waterford, and her front seat passenger, Michael Koelsch, 42, of Boise, Idaho, survived but were taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.
Three children were in the back of the SUV, including Wilken’s teenage daughter and Koelsch’s 7-year-old twin girls.
Wilken’s daughter, Kaylinn, 14, was killed. So was one the twins, Olly.
The SUV was towing a boat at the time. Deputies say the semi truck collided with back of the SUV. The semi-truck driver, Allen Guthrie, 56, of Elkhorn, wasn’t hurt.
The Walworth County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating the crash.
