FORT WINNEBAGO (WKOW)–The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office is asking for information about a brush fire that happened Saturday morning in the French’s Creek Wildlife Area located along Fox River Road near CTH CM in the township of Fort Winnebago.
The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office received a call from witnesses about a brush fire around 11 a.m.
Witnesses that were fishing in the area saw fireworks going off behind them.
The witnesses later noticed that a fire had broken out in a dry brush area just east of the parking lot.
The fire was about half the size of a football field and was extinguished by fire units with no injuries or damage to any of the facilities at French’s Creek, according to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office.
A car was seen parked in the French’s Creek Fox River Road parking lot shortly before the fire.
The car was described as being similar to a black in color Honda Accord 4 door with “Easton Motors” on the truck. The older Honda- type vehicle had several flat brim baseball style hats laying in the back window and had Wisconsin license plates.
Two white males about 25 years of age were seen in the area just before the fire was discovered.
Freshly used fireworks were found in the area where the fire took place.
The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by the Portage Fire Department, Divine Savior EMS, and Poynette Rangers.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Columbia County Crime Stoppers at (800) 293-8477.
