Madison man arrested after wielding knife in parking lot

MADISON (WKOW) — A Madison man was arrested Monday night after threatening another man with a knife in a parking lot on 2400 block East Springs Dr.

James D. Hansen, 62, of Madison faces charges of disorderly conduct while armed.

A 32-year-old Columbus man told police he was in the parking lot near Best Buy about 6 p.m. Aug. 5 when he saw Hansen repeatedly put a knife back in its sheath and pull it out.

The man said he saw Hansen walk toward Best Buy, so he warned customers and staff members of potential danger.

The man said that Hansen threatened him saying, “I’m going to cut you and kill you,” before the man was able to safely get to his car.

Police say Hansen put the knife in a backpack and entered Best Buy where he was told by staff that he needed to leave the backpack outside, according to the incident report.

Hansen became angry and walked off, according to the incident report.

Madison police arrived and arrested Hansen on a tentative charge of disorderly conduct while armed.
