Demonstrators rally at State Capitol in support of immigrants

MADISON (WKOW) — Dozens of people gathered on the steps of the State Capitol Thursday night to show their support for immigrants in Wisconsin.

Organizers say at a time when there is anti-immigrant rhetoric in the U.S., they wanted to show people who are here, or may be coming here, they are welcome in our state.

“By showing this to the community that there are people who are here for them, that are going through the same things as them on an every day basis, we are telling them that you are welcome here and that there is someone out there that understands you, and there’s a community for you to speak up.,” said Stephanie Salgado with Youth Climate Action Team.

Organizers also used the event to advocate for a bill to allow undocumented students to get in-state tuition.
