MADISON (WKOW) — Cities, villages and towns in Dane County are pledging to work together on environmentally-friendly projects.
Nearly two dozen municipalities are part of the “Sustainability Leaders Collaborative.” The idea is to work together on initiatives on clean energy and infrastructure projects.
“I think what you can expect is to see hopefully more action and it being easier for us collaboratively, collectively to work on these things because we’re tackling them together,” said Madison mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway.
Officials from the municipalities met Thursday for the first time and agreed to create four working groups to collaborate on ideas moving forward:
- Solar development
- Renewable fuel usage for municipal fleets
- Energy efficiency/sustainability for facilities
- Green infrastructure to manage runoff from heavy rain events
Members of the collaborative will meet again in the winter to review progress made by the working groups.
