City unveils design for Madison Public Market

MADISON (WKOW) — People in Madison finally got a look at what the Madison Public Market will look like.

The city unveiled the nearly-complete design at a meeting at the Madison Municipal Building.

It’ll have spaces for local merchants to sell their goods, a market kitchen and outdoor plazas.

City officials say they know many people are closely watching this development and they want to get it right.

“We are anticipating 500,000 visitors per year, $21 million in local annual sales. But we know from a community standpoint, it’s going to impact and really benefit our community for years to come,” said Hannah Mohelnitzky from the city’s engineering division.

The market will be built in the soon-to-be-vacated Fleet Services building on North First Street.

It’s expected to be open in the fall of 2021.
