BIG FLATS (WKOW) — Adams County officials will distribute water bottles later this month to people whose private wells are covered in floodwaters.
“Until you know your water is not contaminated, drink bottled water,” Jane Gervais, Adams County Emergency Management’s director said.
The county will distribute water bottles Monday, Sept. 16 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and again on Wednesday, Sept. 18 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Residents are required to provide their names and addresses when picking up.
Adams County Public Health Department recommends those with private wells submerged by floodwater to not drink from their wells. Instead, those affected should wait for the flooding to recede and then test the water for bacteria.
Public Health has sample kits available at 108 E. North St. in Friendship. The county encourages those seeking kits to call (608) 339-4505 to schedule a pickup time to ensure availability.
