Officials warn Wisconsin River could crest early Sunday

COLUMBIA COUNTY (WKOW) — The Columbia County Emergency Management Office warned the Wisconsin River could crest this weekend.

According to a press release, as of 7 a.m. Saturday the Wisconsin River is at 15.5 feet. Predictions from the National Weather Service show the river will crest around 17.1 feet on Sunday. However, officials expect the river to start receding on Tuesday if no more rain is in the forecast.

There are road closures around the county, especially in the Blackhawk Park area south of Portage. A list of complete road closures on the county’s website. This will be updated as impacted roads are closed and reopened.

Officials are reminding residents to not drive through standing water on a road, even if it’s as little as six inches.
