Horse killed in hit and run between buggy and vehicle

DARLINGTON (WKOW) — The Lafayette County Sheriff is looking for the driver of a vehicle responsible in a hit and run that killed a horse on STH 81 early Sunday morning.

According to a release from Sheriff Gill, Joseph King, 20, of Darlington was driving a buggy east around 3 a.m. when the buggy was hit from behind by a vehicle, also travelling east.  King, the buggy, and horse pulling the buggy were all thrown into a ditch.

The vehicle did not stop and left the scene, Sheriff Gill said.  King was able to contact someone nearby who called 911.

The horse died in the crash, and the buggy was badly damaged.

King was taken to the hospital and is recovering.

Sheriff Gill asked for the public’s help finding the driver and vehicle that left the crash.  Anyone with information can contact the Sheriff’s office at (608) 776-4870.
