UPDATE: Man identified in car vs. pole crash in Monona

UPDATE (WKOW) — The Medical Examiner has released the name of the man who was killed in a crash that happened Monday night in Monona.

Officials say it was 21-year-old Joseph Swenson.

He died from injuries from the crash.

UPDATE (WKOW) —  Power has been restored after a deadly crash in Monona Monday evening.

A driver hit a power pole in the 4500 block of Winnequah Road at about 7:20 p.m.

The 21-year-old was pronounced dead on scene.

Crews have been there for hours as they replace the utility pole the driver hit.

UPDATE (WKOW) — A 21-year-old Madison man is dead after crashing into a power pole in Monona, according to the Monona Police Department.

Authorities said the single-vehicle crash happened at about 7:20 p.m. in the 4500 block of Winnequah Road.

The driver died at the scene. He was the only person in the car.

Witnesses told police he was driving fast before the crash.

The road will remain shut down while MG&E makes repairs to the downed power pole.

MONONA (WKOW) — One person has died after a car hit a utility pole in Monona Monday night. The crash happened just before 7:30 p.m. according to Dane County dispatchers.

Witnesses say someone was thrown from the vehicle after it collided with the pole on Winnequah Rd. near W. Dean Avenue.

Police officers at the scene say there was only one person in the vehicle.

MGE workers were also there to evaluate the damage to the pole.
